Adobe Unveils New Mobile Apps, Adobe Portfolio and Updates to Desktop Apps at Adobe MAX

Adobe is hosting its annual Adobe MAX creativity conference today, where the company is announcing new mobile apps, updates to a number of Creative Cloud products, and unveiling new services.

The two new mobile apps Adobe is releasing today include Photoshop Fix and Capture CC. Photoshop Fix was highlighted on stage at Apple’s recent iPad Pro unveiling, where it was used on the new 12.9-inch tablet. Photoshop Fix [Direct Link] is an image retouching and restoration-focused app that includes powerful Photoshop tools like the Healing Brush and Liquify.

Capture CC [Direct Link], Adobe’s second new mobile app, combines the capabilities of several existing Adobe apps including Adobe Brush, Adobe Shape, Adobe Color, and Adobe Hue, making the tools from each of these apps accessible in a single app. Several other Adobe apps like Lightroom for iPhone and iPad, Photoshop Mix, Photoshop Sketch, Illustrator Draw, Premiere Clip, and Comp CC are also receiving minor updates today.

Each of Adobe’s apps interfaces with its range of Creative Cloud desktop apps via CreativeSync technology, allowing files to be transferred and worked on between mobile and desktop devices.

Most of Adobe’s desktop apps are receiving new features today, with the changes for more popular apps listed below.

Both InDesign CC and Illustrator CC are being updated with new Touch workspaces. Illustrator CC is also gaining a new Shaper tool that combines 12 tools and panels in one, non-destructive Live Shapes, and improved Smart Guides, while InDesign CC is getting new online publishing features. Premiere Pro CC includes expanded UltraUD support for editing 4K to 8K video footage, plus it will gain support for HDR workflows.

Photoshop CC is gaining Artboard features for better visualization of design layouts. Adobe’s Design Space design-centric Photoshop layout is also now available to all customers. Lightroom CC is gaining improved importing tools and integrated training content for beginners, while Lightroom for web is being enhanced, adding Photoshop editing capabilities for adjusting exposure, temperature, white balance, and more.

Several of Adobe’s apps, including Photoshop CC, Lightroom CC, Illustrator CC, InDesign CC, and Premiere Pro CC are being updated with new Touch capabilities usable on Windows tablets and Apple trackpad devices. Adobe Fuse CC is being added to existing Creative Cloud plans.

On the services side, Adobe is adding video support to its Adobe Stock feature, allowing users to download and purchase video content right within the CC desktop apps. Adobe is also announcing Adobe Portfolio, which is free with any Adobe Creative Cloud plan. With Adobe Portfolio, Adobe customers can create simple portfolio websites that are powered by Behance.

Adobe will also be debuting a new CC desktop app that’s being developed under the codename „Project Comet.“ Details on Project Comet will be available at the MAX conference.

Adobe’s mobile apps are all available for free beginning today and updates to Creative Cloud desktop software will ship to Creative Cloud members before the end of the year. Adobe’s software is available from its website, and pricing can be found here.

Adobe Unveils Photoshop and Premiere Elements 14 for Mac

Adobe today released new versions of Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements, its lower-cost photo and video editing software aimed at consumers. In this year’s update, both Photoshop Elements 14 and Premiere Elements 14 have gained several new features and refinements to existing tools, making it easier than ever to use Adobe’s software for improving photos and videos.

Photoshop Elements 14, Adobe’s image editing software, has gained tools for removing camera shake and for removing haze. Adobe first introduced haze removing tools with its 2015 Creative Cloud update, and has now brought that capability to Photoshop Elements 14. While the haze removal tool is useful for improving the look of outdoor shots, it can also be used to clean up old photos and improve the lighting in backlit shots.

Adobe’s shake removing tool introduces auto shake reduction. It’s able to analyze a photo and fix it to remove blur caused by camera movement, with tools for fine tuning the final look of the image.

In addition to these two new tools, Adobe has also included new capabilities for several existing features. Guided Edits, the built-in tutorial tool in Photoshop Elements has been updated with new options that walk customers through adding motion blur and resizing photos to specific frame sizes. Guided Edits also include new before and after effects to make it clearer what each one does.

There are enhanced auto correct tools that provide five correction options after subject, color, composition, and lighting for each image have been analyzed, and there are much improved tools for selecting fine details in like hair and pet fur in a photo.

Facial recognition capabilities have been improved and faces are now recognized faster and more accurately, and there’s a map that shows where photos with GPS included were taken.

Premiere Elements 14, Adobe’s video editing software, now includes support for importing and editing 4K video from a range of different cameras, which is this year’s biggest addition. As with Photoshop Elements 14, Premiere Elements 14 has gained improved Guided Edits for adding dramatic effects to videos.

Audio enhancement tools have been moved front and center in the app, making them more accessible, and motion titles have also been improved. It’s easier to manage video clips with improved organizational tools and better facial recognition to sort by people, place, and event, and both photos and videos with GPS information embedded will be displayed on a map.

Both Photoshop Elements 14 and Premiere Elements 14 for Mac and Windows can be purchased from Adobe’s website for $99.99 each. Bundles are available for $149.99, and existing users can upgrade for $79.99 for one product for $119 for the bundle.

Adobe Announces Creative Cloud Updates, Expanded Creative Profile [Mac Blog]

Adobe today announced that all of its Creative Cloud desktop apps, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and more, will receive updates that improve the efficiency of work flows and boost performance.

Photoshop CC, for example, will gain new Blur Gallery motion effects for creating a sense of motion, a Focus Mask for selecting focus areas and highlighting portrait shots with a shallow depth of field, new Content Aware capabilities, and a new Perspective Warp for adjusting the perspective of a specific part of an image.

The update also includes enhanced Mercury Graphics Engine performance, the ability to link Smart Objects to be shared across multiple documents, and improved Layer Comps.

Illustrator CC gains Live Shapes to transform rectangles into complex shapes and back, while in InDesign CC it’s now possible to select table rows and columns and use the EPUB fixed layout to create digital books.

Adobe’s video apps now include Live Text Templates and Masking and Tracking, with Premiere Pro CC gaining enhanced graphics performance. After Effects now includes new keying effects, while SpeedGrade CC has a more flexible Direct Link color pipeline and Audition has enhanced multi-track tools.

Along with updates to all of its Creative Cloud apps, Adobe is expanding Creative Cloud profiles to improve the connectivity between mobile and desktop apps. Profiles will include stored files, photos, fonts, and preferences, which can be accessed on both desktop and mobile apps, allowing files to be seamlessly shared between apps.

The new CC desktop apps, mobile apps, and hardware are tightly integrated through Creative Cloud services. This integration helps liberate the creative process by enabling users to access and manage everything that makes up their creative profile – their files, photos, fonts, colors, community and more – from wherever they work.

Adobe today also introduced both a new suite of mobile apps designed with its new SDK and two new tools, the Adobe Ink and the Adobe Slide, detailed in a separate post.

Adobe’s new Creative Cloud updates are available to Creative Cloud subscribers for free. Adobe offers individual Creative Cloud memberships starting at $49.99 per month for new customers, $29.99 per month for existing CS customers, and $19.99 for students. Adobe has also announced plans to make its $9.99/month Photography bundle, with access to Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5, permanent and available to all users, and the company is debuting expanded offerings for education and enterprise.
