New ‘Steve Jobs’ TV Spot Calls Upcoming Movie a ‘Must-See’

Universal just released the second official trailer for the new Steve Jobs movie last week, and over the weekend it began debuting the newest TV spot for the film. The new 30-second ad features some of the same glimpses of Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet as Steve Jobs and Joanna Hoffman, but it’s the first to showcase a sampling of lines from the reviews of some critics who have already seen the film. Also worth mentioning, one of the most interesting aspects of the new spot is the Mac’s startup chime that’s used to overlay and punctuate the short commercial.

The commercial cites reviews from places like Indiewire and The Playlist, which called the new movie „must-see one-of-a-kind cinema“ and „a rush of blood to the head,“ respectively. Although a handful of critics have been able to see the film thanks to its premiere at Telluride, more and more will be adding their opinions in the coming weeks as the movie makes its Centerpiece debut at the New York Film Festival, and opens wider throughout October.

Overall, the first impressions of the movie have been largely positive, with praise landing on Fassbender’s portrayal of the former Apple CEO, leading to some early Oscar buzz for the movie. Still just under a month from its theatrical debut on October 9, the movie currently sits at a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes with nine positive reviews to one negative.

Check out the rest of the TV spots released by Universal in the playlist above.

Claimed ‘iPhone 6s’ Box Appears Similar to ‘iPhone 6s Plus’ Packaging

A new image of the packaging for the „iPhone 6s“ has turned up online (via MacX), appearing similar to images of a box for the „iPhone 6s Plus“ that were shared in late August. Both boxes showcase a koi pond-like fish against a white surface, suggesting the rumored packaging could be what Apple will use to box the next-generation iPhones, which are expected to be the centerpiece of the company’s September 9 event tomorrow.

The fish image has also begun rumors surrounding the „iPhone 6s“ and „iPhone 6s Plus,“ suggesting the new smartphones will include a motion wallpaper feature. Similar in spirit to the dynamic wallpapers Apple introduced in iOS 7, the supposed update would bring something more akin to the in-depth motion backgrounds of the Apple Watch and will feature images from fish in a koi pond to different color smoke clouds.

‘Steve Jobs’ Movie Chosen as Centerpiece for 53rd New York Film Festival

Danny Boyle’s upcoming Steve Jobs film has been selected as the Centerpiece of the 53rd New York Film Festival, which takes place from September 25 through October 11. The announcement was made by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, which hosts the NYFF each year.

Steve Jobs will be screened for audiences at the festival on October 3, about a week before the movie gets a wide release on October 9. New York Film Festival Director and Selection Committee Chair Kent Jones voiced excitement for the Aaron Sorkin-penned movie’s Centerpiece selection at this year’s NYFF, a position held in past years by movies like No Country For Old Men and Inherent Vice.

“You hear that a bio of Steve Jobs is being produced, and of course you see multiple possible movies in your head . . . but not this one. Steve Jobs is dramatically concentrated, yet beautifully expansive; it’s extremely sharp; it’s wildly entertaining, and the actors just soar—you can feel their joy as they bite into their material.”

The 17-day film festival previously announced that its opening and closing night films will be Robert Zemeckis’s The Walk and Don Cheadle’s Miles Ahead, respectively. Tickets to the festival aren’t exactly open to the public at large, but those interested can sign up to become a Film Society member, and provide a small donation, to receive „exclusive benefits“ like early ticket access to NYFF screenings and events ahead of the general public.

These benefits reduce the cost of the festival to packages ranging between $300 and $1,250. There are also VIP passes available that begin at $5,000 and go up to as much as $20,000 to include multiple tickets, exclusive VIP seating, and exclusive NYFF53 commemorative items like the festival’s official poster and a limited-edition tote bag.
