Apple CEO Steve Jobs may be close to inking a deal with long-time friend and U2 front-man Bono that would see the technology company offer some of its products in limited-edition red colors to benefit Bono’s AIDS-awareness charity (RED).
Unconfirmed reports from sources familiar with the deal say a red iPod, red MacBook, and red iMac have all been discussed but that no agreement has been finalized and no date is known as to when the products might appear.
(RED) has thus far garnered only limited exposure in the U.S. but has a substantial presence in the U.K., where several (RED)-exclusive products began appearing this year, including a red Motorola SLVR phone and American Express Red card. A portion of the sale of each (RED) product is donated to The Global Fund, an organization that helps women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.
